Assholes armed with a validation button

filed under: journal  :: blogging  :: modern life  :: web development

Amen.

I've had the pleasure of being informed that my pages do not validate a number of times. I suppose it's because way back then I used to write about web design and stuff, and my old articles are still floating out there on the interwebs. Guess one reason why I've basically stopped writing about such things.

(I know exactly where and why my pages don't validate. Go away.)

This juvenile tactic is being employed by the leader of WordPress in the comments to this post. Pretty sad, and slightly funny too, as are many of the comments. (Back when SixApart was screwing up the licensing thing, I was not one of the ones who jumped off the Movable Type ship screaming and beating my chest about how unfair it all was. My jumping ship came a lot later, for my own reasons).

Once again though, I just don't get this fanboy culture around, of all things, a blogging platform. So silly.

Matt is one reason I'd never use wordpress.com for hosting. He has a history of taking offense at a blog he doesn't personally like and abruptly deciding it somehow violates their terms of service, deleting it without an opportunity for moving it. Google is a publicly traded corporation with adults running the show, so stuff like that doesn't happen with Blogspot. As for valildation, if you use AdSense or affiliate ads, forget it. And XHTML is a dead end. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but HTML 4 --> HTML 5 (some day) is where it's at. Get with the program, Matt.
