To conclude: - Everyone has an agenda and an axe to grind - News media really need to try to at least get the views of more than one person, as well as check the backgrounds of self styled “experts”.

Whenever I’m uncertain about an “expert’s” credentials I look up what papers they’ve published. He has a lot re:heart disease and obesity, I don’t see anything about infectious diseases or viruses. scholar.google.com/citations?user…

Interesting. One man, Kenji Shibuya, has been very busy giving interviews to several overseas news outlets saying Japan’s COVID-19 strategy is a failure. NYT, BBC, Süddeutsche Zeitung, France 24, Tages Anzeiger, etc. twitter.com/tsukuru_ouu/st…

However, according to reports in Tokyo for instance only 1/6 of the hotel rooms made available are in use, because people prefer their own homes. That’ll probably be an issue in the US too. tokyo-np.co.jp/article/nation…

Marie Kondo’s English is not that good, for sure. (Of course mocking it is beyond the pale.) Which is why it’s extra amazing that she has had such success internationally. Plus her interpreter on her Netflix show, Marie Iida, is so good.

“Please to buy my cutting board” is really not the kind of grammatical mistake a native Japanese speaker would make in English. It’s what a usually monoglot English speaker would say to mock someone’s English.
